Preschool Art Activity: Puff Paint Snow

Making snow is one of my favorite preschool winter activities. Children from pre-k through second grade can enjoy this creative shared by Luauna. Just remember to keep the shaving cream out of little eyes, it stings.
Materials: Turquoise blue construction paper, snowman shape (I use the Elison snowman), collage materials, shaving cream and glue.
Description: Have children decorate a snowman with the collage materials; wiggly eyes, buttons, foam shapes, ribbon, etc. Glue to blue paper. Mix equal parts of shaving cream and Elmer’s glue. Have the children use popsickle sticks, q-tips, plastic spoons, etc. to add the mixture around their snowman and make hills of snow and snow falling from the sky. When the mixture is dry, it makes beautiful puffy snow.
This activity was taken from the awesome Preschool Website Preschool Rainbow, you can find other great winger activities by visiting yourself.

You really want to use your imagination when it comes to preschoolers.
Take for instance playing games with them. We often do the games where you throw some kind of small soft object and aim for a basket, bucket or tote of some kind. This gets them going, especially if afterwards you give them some kind of treat or small toy for winning, all of the children win of course.
We also play memory, the age old game of flipping cards over and matching them up, we do it a little different though, we only use about half of the cards. The kids seem to get too overwhelmed when there are too many cards to choose from and remember. As they get older you can add more back to the game.
Another thing you can do is considered classroom games, File Folder Games. There are many to purchase online, but I have found a few great links to share that offer some for free. We like all of them, but like I said the free ones are pretty difficult to pass up.

Five little apples sitting in a tree,
One looked down and smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could,
One fell down … mmmm it was good!
(Continue rhyme until all the apples have fallen from the tree.)
Preschoolers love short, rhyming songs they can remember. You can find more of these songs at Preschool Express. Here is the link to songs such as; Big Green Bananas, I’m A Juicy Orange, I’m A Little Purple Grape, Pick A Pretty Berry, and more.

Valentine’s Day Butterfly Preschool Craft
This Valentine’s Day Butterfly craft is made with a toilet paper roll, a printer, paper, scissors, glue and something to color with (if you’ve opted for the B&W version). You can seal the bottom the this toilet paper roll craft (just glue on a circle of paper). Then fill it with cinnamon hearts (or other candies) and seal to top. What a cool way to give a Valentine’s treat to a friend!

If you live in the north you probably have some snow by this time of year. Yes? Well lucky for you toddlers and preschoolers love snow. Here are some fun things you can do with snow and toddlers.
Build an igloo
Snowball fun. Not a fight, but you could throw them at a building to see who can get them the highest. Build the igloo with snowballs. Build miniature snow men.
Snow angels
Laying in the snow and moving arms and legs apart and together to make an angel.
Make a snow castle
Use cups and bowls to make blocks of snow and stack them to form a snow castle.
Tips for snow play with little ones:
Remember the little ones won’t always say when they are too cold. They won’t want to come inside. You have to check them often and their fingers if you can to see if they are very cold. A half hour to an hour outside is more than enough time. They still get tired fast and need sleep, this would be a great morning activity.
