So today we are going to practice STOP, DROP, and ROLL!!!!
Using red, orange and yellow felt pieces cut them out to look like flames. Then use velcro to put them together. Explain to the children that if they ever catch on fire they should not run, that they should stop whatever they are doing, drop to the ground, and roll around.
Once the children understand this, put the felt fire on one at a time and allow them to practice. This can be very fun and all of the children will enjoy it. If you are able to make more than one piece of fire then do it you will need it if your children do not share well.
Once they all of this down very well you can explain to them what LOOK, LISTEN, and FEEL mean. You know look for smoke, listen for help, and feel the doors for fire.

Today’s craft is to make a mothers day card. You will need construction paper, glue, glitter, crayons or markers, and stickers if you want. Once you have helped the children to put happy mothers day on the card allow them to decorate it as they see fit for their mother.
If you can use a picture of the child as well, and date the card so that mom knows what year, it would be nice.
This link has some nice crafts you could also do for Mothers Day:

There are a variety of poems to put into the cards you make today. Try to come up with roses are red, violets are blue poems, or other short rhyming verses. Here are a couple to help you:

Today’s activity is making hand prints. this will end up being a butterfly and you will need two or three different colored paints. Use black paint to paint the children’s middle finger down to the bottom of the palm. Then use either one or two different colors to fill in the rest of the hand. (I use one color for the girls and another for the boys.) Once the hand is painted have the children press it down on a piece of paper. as soon as the paint is dry draw in the antenea for the butterfly. Then write the some where on the paper,
This isnt just a butterfly
As you can plainly see.
I make it with my hand
Which is a part of me.
It comes with lots of love
Especially to say
I hope you have a very
Happy Mothers Day.
This could even be printed out and then pasted onto the paper.

I apologize for messing up the schedule already, but apparently this coming weekend is mother’s day so I should be writing about ideas and activities for them to do on this topic. So, here goes..
For yesterday’s activity you can let kids draw a picture of what they think mom looks like. Give them all the necessary crayons, markers and etc. Then help them write a special message to mom on the picture, signing their name.
For today, you can make precut shapes of the Letter M and have them fill it with colored mini marshmallows and glue, it is a gift for mom for mothers day.
I will still post about community helpers this week so that you can do both if you wish…

An important community helper theme for preschoolers is the police man. They should learn what to say when they get lost and know some basic safety rules.

When you begin to look for a preschool for your child you’ll notice that most of the schools look the same. There will be teachers and children and small tables and chairs; there will be children’s drawings on the walls and toys on the shelves.
The critical differences between one school and another may not be in the classroom environment, but in what the teachers and children are doing. In some schools, the children will spend the day playing with whatever strikes their fancy while the teachers watch and answer their questions, in others, the children will spend much of the day seated at the table all coloring in the same shapes and pictures while the teacher guides them explaining what to do and how to do it.
